The benefits that honeybees provide as pollinators and the delicious honey they produce will be highlighted.

February 2, 2021 – The 48th Annual Black History Leadership Society

Presented by Bishop Dorothy Sherrod

This year marks the 48th Annual Black History Leadership Society’s program held each year at Lily of the Valley Church in Covert. The mission of the BHLS is to bring awareness to the rich history of African Americans here in South Haven and the surrounding areas as well as highlighting the many contributions made by African Americans in the development of the city. Equally important, the Society endeavors to continue to support our youth through the Youth on The Rise Scholarship and Mentoring. As one of the founders and leaders, Bishop Dorothy Sherrod will bring us the rich history of this Society to the Scott Club.

November 3, 2020 – Peace House – An Intentional Community

Presented by the DeWaeles and the Mechtenberg-Berrigans

“We believe that the good of each person is bound to the well-being of society as a whole; therefore we advocate taking personal responsibility for creating a new society within the shell of the old…a place where it is easier for people to be good”. In 2006, two families came together, bought side by side houses on the east side of Kalamazoo, and begin their mission of peace and justice. The DeWaeles and the Mechtenberg-Berrigans will share their journey to open Peace House, an intentional Community.

October 20, 2020 – A World War II WAC in Europe

Presented by Cyndee Schaffer

Author Cyndee Schaffer will share stories about the book she co-authored with her mother, Mollie Weinstein Schaffer, entitled Mollies War: The Letters of a World War II WAC in Europe. This memoir describes the life of a WAC enlistee who served in England, France and Germany at key points during the war as told by Mollie’s letters primarily to her sister.
