CANCELED May 5, 2020 – Detroit and the Detroit Shipping Company Project

Dominic Walbridge, architect and principal at Independent Design Architects in Chicago, will share his recent experiences as lead architect of the Detroit Shipping Company, a 10,000 square foot dining and entertainment complex constructed from 21 re-purposed shipping containers. In 2019, Dominic accepted the AIA Chicago Chapter Small Projects ‘Honor Award’ and the ‘Award of Honor’ from the Society of American Registered Architects in New York for his work on the Detroit Shipping Company project.

CANCELED April 21, 2020 – Ashes Under Water

Michael McCarthy, a former reporter and editor for The Wall Street Journal, will discuss his national bestseller, Ashes Under Water: The SS Eastland and the Shipwreck That Shook America. The book brought to life a tragedy in which more than 800 people, mostly poor women and children, perished in a steamship capsize in 1915. It hit the New York Times bestseller list in 2015 and inspired a documentary film, forthcoming on PBS, titled Eastland: Chicago’s Deadliest Day.
Salad luncheon at 1:00 p.m. followed by program.

Connie Schaffer will describe her experiences working with her husband on construction of dormitories for rescued girls. The project was organized by Maranatha Volunteers International.

We are sorry, but due to health concerns with the coronavirus this event has been canceled.
Come Celebrate St. Paddy’s Day with the Scott Club. On St. Patrick’s Day the whole world is Irish. So, don your green & shake your shalaylee.

March 3, 2020 – Healing with Herbs

Home-grown medicine also known as herbs and weeds can be used naturally to help your body fight against common ailments. Ms. Zwar, Registered Nurse will discuss some favorite plants that can be used medicinally.

February 18, 2020 – Monarch Migration – Where Do They Go and What Happens When They Arrive?

Returning to Scott Club by popular request, the Butterfly Lady, Janice Wick, will explain how monarchs prepare and navigate for migration and will let you know how you can help ensure a successful migration. Janice will have monarch conservation information sheets available along with Common and Swamp Milkweed seeds to share. Let’s think spring and prepare for the upcoming monarch season.

February 4, 2020 – Plant-based Cuisine and the Future of Food

Chef, baker, farmer and owner of Water and Wheat Vegan Cafe in Coloma, Josh Musinski, has a rich background in plant-based cuisine. Josh will share his perspectives with us along with some samples that will amaze you.

January 21, 2020 – What is on the Horizon for the City of South Haven?

Mr. Hunter, Director of the South Haven Department of Public Works, will discuss current City plans including recently mandated projects due to new state requirements influenced by the Flint water crisis.
