June 2-4, 2022 Rummage Sale

Rummage Sale

Donations accepted: May 31st and June 1st between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Sale: June 2nd and 3rd from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; June 4th from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

Support South Haven Scott Club’s major fundraiser by donating items in good condition and attending the sale to take advantage of some incredible bargains. Proceeds will help us maintain our Michigan Historic site and continue to provide a rich variety of programs.

May 17, 2022 Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Great Michigan Read But Were Afraid to Ask

2021-2022 marks the second year the Scott Club has partnered with the Michigan Humanities’ Great Michigan Read program. Bess Biddle who participated as a member of the Southwest Region’s selection committee will present a program titled “Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Great Michigan Read But Were Afraid to Ask.” The statewide program which “aims to connect Michigan residents by deepening readers’ understanding of our state, our society, and our humanity” will be examined.

Beautify your surroundings with gorgeous plants by supporting the South Haven Scott Club Annual Flower Sale. Funds raised will help us maintain our historic building and provide a rich variety of programs.

May 3, 2022 The Fight for the Vote in Michigan

women’s suffrage

It has been 103 years since the Michigan Legislature granted women the right to vote and 101 years since the US Congress ratified the 19th Amendment. Paula Manley, a Scott Club member and longtime member of the League of Women Voters, will discuss the role Michigan women (and men) played in the long fight for women’s suffrage which did not end with the ratification of the 19th Amendment. Membership meeting will follow program.

Winners of state and national competitions, the South Haven High School History Club will have the Scott Club members as a live audience so they can hone their presentation skills as they prepare for this year’s competitions. Led by teacher and History Club coach, Julie Sheppard, these hard-working young people will impress us with their research, knowledge and skill.

Recycle, Update, Renew

Old worn-out items will be transformed with paint, polish, and imagination. Well-known local artist, Joan Bonnette shows before and after results on rummaged items. Bring an item and she’ll give ideas for your makeover project. Membership meeting will follow program.

Maile Whipple and Cassandra Cushman are local macrame artists who love to create custom works to fit the needs of their clients. Just as their families had done before them, macrame has been an art form that has been passed down for centuries to create hanging art as well as functional art, like a plant hanger or key-chain. Join us as we explore the History of Macrame and learn more about the artists and their upcoming make and take classes with Evergreen Macrame.
